Music Tuition

Please get in touch here if you are interested in individual violin, viola or piano lessons, or if you require an accompanist, conductor or music tutor.
Leonie Anderson has always combined playing at the highest possible level with her love of teaching, applying the same principles to all her students: offering them a ‘toolbox’ of secure techniques will enable them to become increasingly independent learners and to enjoy making music, both alone and with others, throughout their lives, whether as amateurs or professionals. She believes that knowing both what and how to practise in the most efficient way allows stable foundations to be formed and built upon.
Originally a ‘joint first study’ viola player and pianist - studying at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, the University of Bristol and Guildhall School of Music & Drama (under Roger Chase and Jack Glickman) – Leonie has mainly taught violin and viola in a wide variety of independent and state school settings, as well as FE colleges, universities and at Junior Guildhall, alongside coaching chamber music, youth orchestras and directing ensembles. She spent many years devising regional and national events for the European String Teachers’ Association, involving both esteemed pedagogues and students. This enabled her to become familiar with most leading teaching methods, many principles of which she incorporates into her own work, and which she has successfully applied to students aged from 4-80+.
Having been fortunate enough to study with the likes of Eleanor Bailie, Ruth Nye and Allan Schiller as a youngster, Leonie also teaches the piano, notably to adult beginners and to those returning after a break from playing. She particularly enjoys collaborative piano work, including accompanying musicians of all ages and stages for examinations, festivals, concerts and auditions as well as coaching singers for vocal roles in both opera and musical theatre. In addition, she likes facilitating musicians of all ages to sight-sing, whether as individuals or within choirs.
Leonie is also happy coaching aural, and music theory, as well as directing singers and instrumentalists in ensembles, choirs and orchestras, following studies at Canford Summer Schools with George Hurst, at Olney with Michael Rose as well as choral conducting programmes.
Leonie has an enhanced DBS and references are available.
